San Arawa is born as a result of a joint Argentine-New Zealander society, formed by Eduardo Santiago González Lemmi and Sanford Limited.
During the first five years of activity, and thanks to the experience and know-how provided by the New Zealand partner, the company gains strength in the international market as a producer of high-quality hoki fillet block frozen on board of the factory vessel "San Arawa II".

The Argentine partner purchases all of the stock of Sanford Limited (the New Zealand partner) and maintains the technical assistance of experts from New Zealand in the area of on-board quality control, in order to ensure the ongoing top-quality of the products
San Arawa begins its expansion process: it leases factory vessel “Tai An” for fifteen years. It also makes major improvements on the factory vessel “San Arawa II” at the end of this year.

In September, factory vessel “Tai An” begins a unique process of total reconstruction led by an international team of experts in each area, which makes it state-of-the-art in the fields of school detection, fishing gear and on-board processing.
Confident in the correct management of all hoki and Southern blue whiting fisheries, under the scope of the Federal Fishing Council (Consejo Federal Pesquero), San Arawa and other companies in the area decide to jointly promote an international audit in order to analyze the sustainability of the hoki and Southern blue whiting fisheries. This activity is developed following the principles and criteria of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) with the intention of obtaining a certification from this agency for well-managed, sustainable fisheries.

Confident in its philosophy and projection, in January 2010, the company begins to increase its stock capital by taking Japanese company Nichimo Co. Ltd. as a new partner.
